Gabbeh rugs are a variety from Persia, traditionally used as a sleeping rug crafted by woman. They are much thicker than other Persian rugs. The word “Gabbeh” comes from the Persian word raw, natural, uncut.
Gabbeh patterns are simple and primitive with only a limited number of decorative motifs, mostly rectangular and often resembling people and animals. Colours are usually bright with large fields of solid colour used in the designs.
